MESSAGE BY CHAIRMAN

Dear Friends,
It is my privilege to welcome you to Bihar Foundation - Mumbai.
In an effort to encourage investments by Non Resident Indians / Biharis in Bihar, the Department of Industries, Government of Bihar founded Bihar Foundation on 24th November, 2006 vide Cabinet Resolution No. 4433.
The Chief Minister of Bihar was designated as Patron while the Deputy Chief Minister, Bihar was designated as Chairman of Bihar Foundation. The Development Commissioner of the state was designated as Member Secretary of the Foundation. Later on 27th July 2007, it was registered as a non-profit society under Department of Industry with main objects, inter alia, of facilitating stakeholders interested in development of Bihar, facilitating participation of Bihari diaspora in the development of Bihar, promoting well being of Bihari diaspora living in different parts of the world and providing suggestions to the Govt. with respect to policies and schemes for socio-economic development of the state.
In 2008, Bihar Foundation in an effort to reach out to a wider audience of Biharis, decided to open Chapters of Bihar Foundation in India and abroad. These Chapters are basically recognized groups of Bihari diasporas through which the Government of Bihar is trying to communicate with its migrated diasporas. The Chapters are expected to propagate the objectives of the Foundation. Currently, the Foundation has six Chapters in India in the states of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana & West Bengal and ten Chapters abroad in Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia & USA.
The Mumbai Chapter was inaugurated on November 7, 2009 and initially functioned from a small office in the slums of Dharavi until August 11, 2015 when it was shifted to its present location at Bandra Kurla Complex.
We at Mumbai Chapter have taken many initiatives to fulfil the objectives of the Foundation. To name a few examples, we helped set up a diamond cutting and polishing unit in Patna, recommended increase in Floor Space Index (FSI) in industrial areas which was promptly accepted and implemented, we also helped set up Bihar State Industrial and Investment Advisory Council - a body of top corporates, consultants and subject matter experts, we got the ‘Chief Minister Medical Relief Fund Scheme’ extended to poor patients coming to Mumbai for cancer treatment. We are organizing reverse migration of leather goods manufacturing-Bihari entrepreneurs to a tailor made leather goods cluster in Fatuha and Muzzaffarpur, we are also facilitating setting up of a unit of Tata Memorial Hospital in Muzzaffarpur, Bihar.
We look forward for your support. Come join us in this journey of creating a better Bihar in the years to come.
With warm regards
Ravi Shanker Srivastav
